Mystery surrounds animal deaths in Peru


The mysterious demise of dozens of sea creatures on the Peruvian coastline has baffled experts. An inspection by government officials identified 18 sea turtles, 22 sea lions, 16 sharks, 8 dolphins and 22 birds that had died in unexplained circumstances and had washed up along a 77 mile stretch of shoreline. Tests will be conducted on the corpses to try and determine what killed them however the results are not expected for several weeks. In the meantime, the deaths remain something of a mystery.
Possible explanations include a virus, poisoned food sources or offshore oil exploration. Authorities have warned people not to visit the beaches in the region until it can be determined that the shoreline is safe. Nearly 100 dead sea creatures and birds have washed up on a Peruvian coastline and experts are trying to work out the mystery surrounding their deaths.
